The 42-year-old briefly raised hopes of securing a medal for the country when he successfully lifted 140kg in his first attempt, but he subsequently missed on his second and third attempts at 150kg and 155kg respectively.

Cong van Le, who set a World Record with a successful lift of 181 kg, won the gold medal while Omar Qarada of Jordan and Hungary’s Nandor Tunkel won silver and bronze, respectively.

India have sent their largest ever contingent for the Rio Paralympics as a total of 19 athletes are competing for honours.
