P Kashyap was the only singles player in action and the 24-year-old wasted little time in packing off Michael Brownlee of the Falkland Islands 21-8, 21-3 to advance to the second round at the Siri Fort Badminton Complex on Saturday.

The world no.32 was never under pressure through out the match and should encounter little trouble till the quarterfinals where he could meet fourth seed Muhammad Hafiz Hashim of Malaysia.

“That match will be crucial because if I can upset Hashim, I will be confident to take on Rajiv (the second seed whom Kashyap defeated in the team championship) again," he said.

Also advancing to the next round were mixed doubles combinations of Aparna Balan /Sanave Thomas and Ashiwini Ponnappa/Rupesh Kumar.
