Kashyap, Saina in second round

Indian shuttler P Kashyap showed nerves of steel as he stunned world number 10 Jan Jorgensen of Denmark to advance to the men's singles second round in the Hong Kong Super Series on Wednesday.

Indian shuttler P Kashyap showed nerves of steel as he stunned world number 10 Jan Jorgensen of Denmark to advance to the men's singles second round in the Hong Kong Super Series on Wednesday.

Kashyap, who had reached the London Olympics quarters, won 24-22, 20-22, 22-20 in the opening-round match. Olympic bronze-medallist Saina Nehwal beat Aprilla Yuswandari of Indonesia 22-20, 21-8 to reach the second round.

Ajay Jayaram also reached the second round after seeing off Zhengming Wang of China 22-20, 23-21.

Harika survives
Khanty Mansiysk (Russia)

Grandmaster D Harika survived by the skin of her teeth, benefitting from a big blunder in a lost position against Zhao Xue of China in the return game of the quarterfinals of the World women's chess championship.

After drawing the first round, Harika played with white and missed serious tactical chances. However, a late blunder by Zhao allowed Harika to escape with a draw. Anna Ushenina of Ukraine made it to the semifinals defeating Nadezhda Kosintseva of Russia in the second game.

KG Gymkhana win
New Delhi

Kishan Ganj Gymkhana beat Pelican Club by one wicket in the DDCA League here on Wednesday. Gaurav Chikara took 4/40 for winners while Vikramjeet Singh took 4/40 for the losers.
