Prem Kumar recorded a distance of 8 metres to claim gold in the men's long jump event on the second day of the national inter-state athletics meet in Chennai.
The Tamil Nadu jumper narrowly missed the national record of 8.08m set by Amritpal Singh in 2004. His efforts, however, were 10 cm less than the world athletics meet qualification mark.
In the 800m, Tintu Luka was comfortable winner. She clocked 2:04.14 while Sajeesh Joseph won the men's race in 1:49.04.
