Despite numerous penalty corners earned by AI (5), the Railways defense showed no signs of cracking. It worked as a cohesive unit, cramping AI players for space. The forward lines of both teams looked ordinary but Janardhan Gupta of the Railways was able to slam one of two penalty corners, for the only goal of the match in the 54th minute.
In the other semi final, Army XI put up a brilliant display of fitness and discipline defeating Punjab National Bank (PNB) by an odd goal in three. Rajesh Lakra and Chittaranjan Singh scored for Army XI while Lakhwinder Singh managed the lone consolation for PNB.
The tournament is poised for an exciting finish on Saturday as none of the two finalists begin as clear favourites.
