A look at the final scoreboard, and the name of Japan's Maharu Yoshimura seemed out of place in the list of winners. Yoshimura was the sole paddler to break the Chinese domination as he clinched the junior boys' singles title at the Thyagaraj Stadium. After a hard fought battle, he got the better of China's Yin Hang 13-15, 11-6, 11-9, 11-8, 11-13, 14-12.

The junior girls' title went to China's Zhu Yuling, who defeated compatriot Zhao Yan 7-11, 11-6, 11-8, 9-11, 11-3, 11-9.

Ahishek Yadav, who had assured hosts India of a bronze in the cadet boys' category, lost 9-11, 7-11, 11-8, 4-11, 10-12 to Zhou Kai of China in the semifinals.
