Special Vigilance Court judge B K Srivastava held Premchandra Srivastava guilty under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and awarded five years rigorous imprisonment and Rs 2,000 each under two different sections failing which he would undergo imprisonment of three months.

A case had been lodged with the Vigilance Department by an informant Rajesh Kumar that Srivastava, the then officer-in-charge of Chautham police station in Khagaria, was demanding Rs 4,000 as bribe from his father to clear him of a case. The police officer had falsely implicated the father and arrested him in 1991.
