Talking to reporters in Patna, Thakur said FDI in retail would deal a "crushing blow" to small and medium farmers and accused the Centre of "playing into the hands of big multi-national companies".

"The UPA government at the Centre was conspiring to compel retailers and small traders to close down their establishments", he charged.

Thakur also opposed GST which, he alleged, would entail additional burden on retailers and demanded the Centre make a user-seller-friendly law.

BJP would organise a dharna at Kargil chowk here on July 23 to oppose the move to bring FDI in retail, he added.
