Police resorted to lathicharge and lobbed tear gas shells today to disperse an irrate mob, which pelted stones on policemen and blocked a road here to protest against the murder of a neighbour.

A tenant, Md Azazul with the help of his five associates, stormed the flat of house owner Md Isteyak and allegedly shot him dead, SP Manu Maharaj said.

As the news of the killing spread, angry locals blocked the busy road at Samanpura and started pelting stones on policemen when they persuaded them to lift the blockade, he said.

The mob also damaged a police vehicle and injured a policeman.

Police had to resort to baton charge and fired teargas shells to disperse the crowd, he said.

Two of the six persons allegedly involved in the killing of the house owner were arrested, the SP said and added that raids were on to nab others.
