You could say it had all the ingredients of Bollywood murder plot gone wrong!
The Patna police said here Saturday they had thwarted an attempt by a Supreme Court (SC) lawyer to get his doctor wife murdered by arresting five criminals he had allegedly hired for the purpose.
Patna senior SP Manu Maharaj told reporters Sanjay Kumar Sinha ,an advocate practicing in the apex court, had engaged the five contract killers to murder his wife, Dr Sarita (50).
The lady doctor, who runs a nursing home on Ashiana road in western Patna, was embroiled in a 'family dispute' with her husband. She had made three written complaints to the SSP apprehending trouble from her husband.
"A Patna police team would shortly leave for Delhi to arrest Sinha", the Patna SSP told reporters Saturday, confirming the husband-wife dispute and the wife's complaints.
Maharaj said acting on a tip-off a police team led by Patna city SP Jayant Kant conducted a raid a house in Vyas Nagar (Magistrate Colony, Ashiana Road) and arrested the five suspects.
They were identified as Vipulesh Kumar alias Vipul (Kankarbagh), Pankaj Kumar Singh alias Chintu (Saharsa), Nilesh Kumar (Naubatpur), Rakesh Kumar (Danapur) and Rajkumar Sinha (Munger).
The police recovered a country-made pistol, two magazines, 10 live cartridges, four cell phone, two SIM cards and a knife from their possession. During interrogation the arrested persons confessed they had assembled in the house to murder Sarita, when she emerged from her home, located nearby, to proceed towards her nursing home.
"They admitted they had planned to eliminate the lady doctor and strip the house of all valuables to make it look like a regular case of dacoity. But they were caught before they could do so", the SSP added.
Maharaj said Sinha had paid the contract killers Rs 2 lakh as advance payment for the murder. "In addition, he had offered Pankaj (one of the arrested contract killers) Rs 25 lakh after the job was done", the SSP said.
"Pankaj told the police that Sinha had met him in the house of one of his relatives", he added.
The contract killers, he said, had been living in the rented house for almost a month, looking for an opportunity to execute their plan of eliminating the lady doctor.
"Dr Sarita had lodged two FIRs against Sinha (her husband) at the Rajiv Nagar police station in May 2013, besides one lodged earlier with first class judicial magistrate Kumari Jyoti of Patna civil court, in 2010", said the SSP.
