This is not the first incident in the state capital where criminals attacked police officers. In 2012, armed criminals shot at the then traffic DSP Shashi Bhusan Sharma near the DG Homeguards office and escaped.

DGP P K Thakur told HT that one of the criminals injured in the shooting and was later admitted in a local hospital was arrested, while his accomplice was arrested from Mandiri in a state of unconsciousness.

The condition of both the injured policemen is stable and they are said to be out of danger.
