It was after the New York premiere of Guru (2007) in January that Abhishek proposed to Aishwarya in the balcony of their hotel with a ring, which was used as a prop in the film. Aishwarya said yes to the proposal immediately.

The couple got married in a much-hyped wedding in Mumbai on April 20, 2007. The baraat started from Bachchan’s residence Jalsa, to their other residence Prateeksha, where the Mangalore-styled traditional wedding was organised.
