Mother's Day special: TV moms, who juggle work, home and kids
For female actors, like all working women, striking a balance between work and home is challenging. And for those who become mothers, the task becomes all the more difficult. This Mother’s Day (May 11), some popular TV actors share their views on how they balance their professional and personal fronts. They also open up about what went into living up to the demands of being an actor and a mother. (Text: Kavita Awaasthi) Barkha Bisht “It was emotional for me to leave my baby and go to work. You feel guilty and others add to that feeling. Managing things was easy as my in-laws were very helpful. My daughter, Meera, was 18-months-old (she’s two-and-a-half-years-old now) when I took up Parvarish. Though a working mother needs to put in extra effort, working when you have a young kid doesn’t make you a bad mother.”

Geetanjali Tikekar Kharbanda “I am thankful that my mother-in-law was always with us. Even though we had a maid, the supervision of a family member is always helpful. If it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t have taken up Tere Liye as my son, Shourya, was a year old then (he’s five-years-old now). After returning home, I used to spend time with him.”

Ashita Dhawan “I have twins, Arhmaan and Amaira, and I took up work after a year of their birth. The biggest challenge for me was to have faith in someone else to take care of them when I wasn’t around. My kids enjoy playing with each other and I come home to their smiling faces.”

Shweta Kawaatra“A good support system is the biggest challenge. I’d been a hands-on mother and it was tough initially. I took on a show when my daughter, Zahra Tabeetha, was 22-months-old (she’s two-years-old now). I stick to a 7 am to 4 pm shift as she goes to pre-school. I return home before she wakes up from her afternoon nap.”

Gurdeep Kohli“My daughter, Meher, was seven-months-old (she’s four-years-old now) when I took up Best Of Luck Nikki. I managed to balance work and home with the help of my mother and staff. It was a challenge to be energetic after a tired day as she would be waiting for me to play with her and she would need attention.”
