On Tuesday, a couple was washed away while crossing a bridge on a bike above Gadi river at Panvel. The incident took place at Umroli village along Matheran road, around 15 kilometers from Panvel city around 7.30 am. As the couple was crossing the bridge, the water level of the river increased all of a sudden and the strong current washed away the couple with the bike,” said a police officer from Panvel taluka police station. The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to give relief to P Rajagopal, founder of restaurant chain Saravana Bhavan, who had sought more time to surrender citing medical grounds. Rajagopal was convicted and sentenced to life term for the murder of his employee. Justice NV Ramana rejected the extension of deadline and said he must surrender immediately. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is conducting searches at 110 places across 19 states in its probe on cases of corruption and criminal misconduct. “In a nationwide action, CBI is today conducting searches at around 110 places in 19 States/Union Territories. CBI has registered around 30 separate cases relating to corruption, criminal misconduct and arms smuggling etc,” said a CBI official. (PTI File)
