The killing of five militants in the Uri sector on Friday, 9th June possibly averted bigger attacks after they were found to be wearing body-fitted improvised explosive devices for Fidayeen assaults. The army says it killed 13 militants during last week, taking the number of intruders shot dead along the LoC this year to 40. (AFP)

Despite a steady effort by the Indian Army to curb infiltration and neutralise militants including employing modern technology before they reach the actual LoC, there has been an increase in infiltration attempts from across the border. Though the Army and security forces have foiled 22 infiltration attempts and killed armed intruders in different sectors near the Line of Control (LoC) since January, it is estimated that around 25 to 35 militants have managed to sneak into Kashmir Valley. (AP)
