Rosemary has long been used in traditional medicine for its purported health benefits, which include promoting hair health since  according to haircare experts, rosemary's anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds are among the ingredients that may assist to enhance the appearance and health of hair. In an interview with Zarafshan Shiraz of HT Lifestyle, Dr Stuti Khare Shukla, MD Dermatologist and Founder of Elements of Aesthetics, shared, “Rosmarinic acid, one of the key components of rosemary, has been theorised to have potential advantages that may encourage hair development due to its power to prevent certain enzymes connected to hair loss.” (Photo by Twitter/TastingTable)

She revealed, “Rosemary is recognised for its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial characteristics, which help to improve scalp health. By reducing dandruff and calming any irritation, rosemary water used as a hair rinse may support the maintenance of a healthy scalp. She added, “Rosemary includes antioxidants that can aid in preventing free radical damage to hair, which strengthens it. This may result in hair that is more resilient to breaking and less brittle. The natural substances in rosemary may give your hair more sheen. The use of rosemary water on your hair may make it seem shinier and more glossy by removing product buildup and clearing the scalp.” (Unsplash)

When considering utilising homemade rosemary water, Dr Stuti Khare Shukla suggested a few things to consider and said, “First, it's crucial to properly prepare and concentrate the rosemary water. A moderate infusion would have no discernible effects, whereas an intensely concentrated mixture would hurt the scalp. Also important is consistency. Any potential benefits of rosemary water might take some time to manifest, and occasional consumption could not have the desired results. She concluded, “While there is some evidence to show that rosemary may enhance hair health, it is not a certain way to get hair that is shinier, healthier, or grows more quickly. It could be a valuable addition to your hair care regimen, but it shouldn't be the only thing you do.
