A healthy family relationship and a one where the boundaries are diffused and we are constantly working within the control and fear dynamics, are completely different. Explaining this, Therapist Sarah Crosby wrote, “with healthy functioning family relationships, closeness doesn’t mean sacrificing our identity or our self-esteem for the sake of the family, which is what we see with enmeshment.
