- The MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) House was adjourned on Friday after chaos erupted following a clash between the AAP and the BJP over the mayoral elections. Councillors from both parties clashed, then took to protest with sloganeering against each other before voting commenced. The uproar began when presiding officer Satya Sharma, appointed by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena over the AAP's Mukesh Goyal's recommendation, invited nominated councillors or aldermen (those who traditionally cannot vote) to take the oath ahead of elected members (those who can vote). AAP has nominated Shelly Oberoi for the mayoral, while the BJP has nominated Rekha Gupta. After three civic bodies were merged into one last year, voting for Mayor was set to take place for the first time. The LG will announce new mayoral election dates.
