It is also known as Surya Shashti, Chhath, Mahaparv, Chhath Parv, Dala Puja, Pratihar, and Dala Chhath. With a belief that sunlight has cures for various diseases and conditions, devotees take a dip in the holy river for medicinal and spiritual benefits.
