Photos: Preparations ahead of West Bengal Assembly elections

  • West Bengal will hold elections for its 294-member assembly election in eight phases beginning from March 27. The voting will conclude on April 29 and the counting will take place on May 2. The TMC observes March 14 as 'Nandigram Divas' to pay respect to the 14 people who were killed in police firing on this day during an anti-land acquisition stir in 2007. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on March 14 asserted she will continue to fight and will “never bow down to cowardice" ahead of her first rally after the alleged attack on her in the state’s Nandigram earlier this week. Without naming his mentor-turned-adversary chief minister Mamata Banerjee, BJP candidate from Nandigram Suvendu Adhikari said those who had forgotten Nandigram for 12 years are now coming here to seek votes. A look at the preparations and election campaigns for the upcoming assembly polls in West Bengal.
