A documentary ode to Pu La Deshpande in Pune on June 12

The month of June marks the death anniversary of renowned writer and humourist Purushottam Lakshman Deshpande, who was also popularly known as Pu La. In honour of the veteran artist, Aashay Sanskrutik, a cultural organisation, has organised a screening of the documentary titled Ya Sama Ha, which is based on the renowned humourist. The documentary will be screened on June 12 at the Balgandharva Rangmandir on Jungli Maharaj road.
The programme is part of several sessions which are set to be held across 30 different cities in the country. It will also kick start the birth centenary celebrations which will begin on Novermber 8, 2018 and will go on till November 8, 2019. Virendra Chitrav of Aashay Sanskrutik said that the documentary has been directed by Sudhir Moghe and Mukta Rajadhyaksha. Debu Deodhar is the cinematographer.
The event on Tuesday will comprise a seminar, a book launch and a screening of the above mentioned documentary.
The seminar will be attended by Salil Kulkarni,music director, Madhav Vaze, actor, Milind Joshi from the Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad’s and Anil Awchat, social activist. They will speak about Pu La’s contributions to music, theatre, literature and social initiatives.
DM Mirasdar, author, will moderate the seminar and also share his views on Pu La’s work. Pu La’s nephew Dinesh Thakur and his wife, Jyoti, will represent the Deshpande family at the event.
Parchure Prakashan will release a book titled Kasa Mee Asa Mee comprising Pu La’s speeches and published articles. The book will be launched by Mukta Tilak, Pune mayor on June 12.
DM Mirasdar, veteran Marathi author, inaugurated the logo of Global Pulotsav in March this year, as a part of the celebration that will be organised at major cities in India and five continents, on the occasion of Pu La Deshpande’s birth centenary. A treat of colourful and meaningful programmes will begin from November 8, 2018 and will go on for a year, in memory of Pu La, the renowned Marathi writer and humourist .
The festival has been taking place for the past 14 years in collaboration with Square 1 and Punyabhushan Pratishthan.
An advisory committee consisting of dignitaries and the working committee of Pu La Premi will work towards making the festival a success.
