Maratha Kranti Morcha, Pune, held a dharna outside the residence of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member of legislative assembly Medha Kulkarni in Kothrud on Friday, wherein a group of protestors shaved their head in protest of the government’s lethargic approach to the Maratha reservation protest. Following the dharna, police detained around 100 persons.

Maratha Kranti Morcha protesters alleged that Saurabh Kulkarni, son of MLA Medha Kulkarni, was abusing female protestors participating in the dharna, which lead to a clash between protestors and police. But cops managed to bring the situation under control eventually, and some of the protestors were detained.

But MLA Medha Kulkarni had a different story to tell. "Some political parties are trying to take political mileage off the Maratha protests. Our government is committed towards facilitating reservation to the Maratha community and the process for this is already on. There is no point in involving my family in the issue," she said.

Sachin Adhekar, president of Maratha Seva Sangh, said,"We were protesting in a silent manner, but suddenly, the MLA’s son, Saurabh, started abusing the female protesters from his window. This is not the way to behave with protesters. Instead of taking action against him, the police detained us."

Around 100 protesters gathered at Kulkarni’s residence as a part of their protest drive covering the residences of all public representatives in Pune. Protesters gathered at around 11.00am and started shouting slogans demanding reservation for the community in jobs and education.

Adhekar said that the outfit has planned a protest outside the residences of all 17 public representatives in Pune district, including those belonging to the Maratha community.
