Market Match: Veggie prices drop as market registers good supply

The prices of all major vegetables, including cucumber, ladies finger, green peas, lima beans and French beans, went down by almost 10-15 per cent as compared to their prices last week, according to the produce price list released the Agricultural produce market committee (APMC) on Sunday.

“Good rainfall over Maharashtra has had a very good impact on the vegetable supply at the agriculture produce market committee (APMC), Pune. This is the second consecutive week that we have witnessed the arrival of 200 trucks. This resulted in a decrease and stabilisation of prices of most vegetables,” said Vilas Bhujbal, president of Chhatrapati Shivaji market yard traders' and agents' association, Pune.

On Sunday, the price of ladies finger went from Rs 200 - Rs 300 to Rs 100 - Rs 250 per 10 kilogramme. Cost of green peas decreased from Rs 400 - 500 to Rs 350 - Rs 400 per 10 kilogramme. Similarly, the price of lima beans saw a small rise from Rs 200 - Rs 250 to Rs 180 - Rs 200 per 10 kilogramme. Prices of cucumber also decreased from Rs 80 - Rs 100, and stabilised at Rs 60 - Rs 100 per 10 kilogramme.

Prices of onions stabilised at Rs 120 - Rs 130 per 10 kilogramme. Similarly, prices of tomato stabilised at Rs 60 - Rs 100 per 10 kilogramme. However, prices of potatoes slightly decreased from Rs 150 - Rs 180 to Rs 130 - Rs 180 per 10 kilogramme.
