Delivering the keynote on the occasion of the university’s 55th foundation day on Friday, Patwardhan said, “It is difficult to accept that Patangrao Kadam is not here on the occasion. It was his courage and vision that led him to establish the university in Pune city.”
He described Kadam as a philanthropist and said, “In any given situation, he (Kadam) was the first person to come forward and help the needy. His philosophy had deep traces of rural connect. Be it giving admissions to the needy or helping the poor from villages by giving fee waiver, the university has set an example that everyone must follow.”
Bharati Vidyapeeth is a deemed university with many higher educational institutions established in 1964 by Kadam. It has campuses across the country at New Delhi, Navi Mumbai, Sangli, Pune, Solapur, Kolhapur, Karad, Satara, and Panchgani and runs at least 78 schools and 60 institutions of higher education, including those of professional education.
Vishwajeet Kadam, pro-vice-chancellor and secretary, Bharati Vidyapeeth, thanked Patwardhan for his thoughts and said Patwardhan has been a close associate of the Vidyapeeth.
