A Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus in Pimple Gurav bus stand travelled without a driver and conductor for almost 100 metres before ramming into a garage on Monday evening. PMPML officials said that a major accident was averted as the bus hit the garage and stopped amid heavy traffic. There were no injuries reported in the incident.

The police have booked the driver for inappropriately parking the bus while the PMPML administration has decided to suspend the driver for his negligence. According to officials, the bus had come from Market yard and had been parked inappropriately, with the brakes inactive, when the driver went for a tea break.

Sangavi police have registered a complaint against the bus driver Yuvraj Kudale and have charged him with rash and negligent driving. According to the police, the accident happened at around 8.30 pm when the busy roads were crowded with people, but there were no injuries reported.

Sub inspector of Sangvi police station, RP Kendre, said, “The incident happened because of the carelessness of Yuvraj Kudale. The driverless bus rammed into the auto garage side of Pimple Gurav bus stand.” The bus was also heavily damaged in the incident. “We have registered a complaint against the driver under Sections 287,336,427 of Indian Penal Code and 190/177 of Motor Vehicle Act,” said Kendre.

The PMPML accident department in-charge, Sanjay Kusalkar, said “The accident happened because the driver did not park the bus properly and we have decided to suspend him. Bus drivers should take precautionary measures while driving the vehicle without fail. PMPML will not tolerate any such negligence and will take strong action against whoever is responsible for such incidents.”

In the accident, the bus and the garage were heavily damaged. Garage owner Vijay Kotwal said,“The bus without a driver rammed into my garage around 8.30 pm. Because of the alertness of my colleague, we made a lucky escape and were not hurt. But three motorcycles in my garage, the door of garage and the tin roof were damaged heavily.”
