Pune man sleeping under ambulance crushed to death

The police have not been able to identity the deceased man whose skull was crushed under the left rear tyre of the ambulance.

An ambulance driver was booked for crushing an unidentified person to death under the wheels of his vehicle in Budhwar peth.

The driver was identified as Milind Maruti Dange, 38, a resident of Kotharu colony in Bibvewadi area of Pune. The incident happened at around 6 am near Ganapati bhavan on Shivaji road in Budhwar peth.

The deceased person is suspected to be a footpath dweller or a sweeper.

“He was sleeping under the ambulance when the vehicle started,” said Varsha Shinde, assistant police inspector (API) of Faraskhana police station, who is investigating the case.

Dange was arrested by the police and granted bail by a local court in the case on Saturday itself. However, the police have not been able to identity the deceased man whose skull was crushed under the left rear tyre of the ambulance.

The body was taken to sassoon general hospital for post mortem. However, no one has claimed the body yet. The complaint in the matter was lodged by DV Dhole, constable of Faraskhana police station.

A case under Sections 279 (rash driving), 304(a) (causing death due to negligent driving) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 119/177 of the Motor Vehicle Act was registered against Dange at Faraskhana police station.
