A woman's alleged extramarital affair drove her husband to kill himself in an area under the Sinhagad Road police jurisdiction. Pravin Dnyaneshwar Nimbalkar (39) was found hanging in his residence, where he lived with his wife and a son, on July 17.

The complaint was filed against the woman and two other men by the deceased man's elder brother, Prashant Dnyaneshwar Nimbalkar (41) after the funeral and last rites were over, according to the police. The complainant is a farmer in the Adarki Khurd area of Satara.

Nimbalkar had married the woman in 2006, said the police. Years after their marriage, Nimbalkar found out about his wife's ‘questionable’ conversations with two men.

The complaint in the case identifies the two men as Nitin Popatrao Bhoite, a resident of Wagholi and Ganesh Sukhdeo Ranware, a resident of the Mandai area.

On July 3, the deceased, along with his relatives, had tried to persuade the woman to discontinue her conversations with the two men, according to the complaint. However, according to the suicide note recovered by the police, she refused to stop her conversations. He also wrote that the three got together, threatened and harassed him, added the police.

The complainant as well as the suicide note alleged that it was the harassment by the three that led the man to take the drastic step.

A case under Section 306 for abetment to suicide and 34 were registered against the three at Sinhagad Road police station on Saturday around 4.30 pm.  The case is being investigated by the assistant police inspector.
