Security personnel at Pune station to now wear body cameras
Railway police force, government railway police (GRP) and divisional railway manager’s office have taken the initiative for passengers’ safety and security, besides maintaining law and order at the railway station
To beef up security measures at the Pune railway station, Pune division railway police force (RPF) personnel will now wear body cameras while covering the vicinity of station premises.
The railway security headquarters will provide 25 cameras to the railway police force, Pune.
BK Makrariya, additional security officer, said, “These cameras have the capacity to record for eight hours at a stretch. The officials will have to check the recording at the end of the day and take action as per the footage. The exercise will ensure security standards are maintained at the railway station.”

A senior official from the divisional railway manager’s office on condition of anonymity said, “There has been a sustained effort from all the teams, especially the railway police force and government railway police, who are engaged in safeguarding the railway station, to curb crime. In the past one year, the authorities have been successful in this endeavour and believe that in another three months we will be successful in making the station a beggar and hawker-free zone, which will also bring down the crime rate drastically.”
Meanwhile, passengers have complained to the authorities regarding rampant pick-pocketing and mobile theft at the Pune railway station. At least 500 cases have been registered. Authorities say that with the help of the cameras the forces will be able to check crime.
