Three students from a university in Pune drowned in the Mulshi dam, located around 50km from Pune, on Thursday morning. While two bodies have been recovered, one body remains underwater as of Thursday noon.

The deceased were identified as Sangita Negi, 22, Shubham Raj Sinha, 22, Shiv Kumar, 22, all residents of a society in Kothrud and students pursuing Masters in Business Administration (MBA) at the Bharti Vidyapeeth University, according to the police.

While Negi was a native of Delhi, Sinha is a native of Patna in Bihar and Kumar is from Uttar Pradesh, according to primary information.

“A group of 10 friends had come from an outing arranged by them. The others were present when they drowned and raised an alarm. We recovered the girl’s body with the help of locals immediately. We have just found a male body as well. However, we are not sure which of the two missing men it belongs to,” said police inspector Ashok Dhumal of Paud police station under Pune rural police jurisdiction. The search for the third body is on.

The recovered bodies were taken for post mortem at the local government hospital. The incident is being recorded as accidental deaths at Paud police station.
