12-yr-old raped on way to I-Day event: No arrests by Chandigarh police yet

Even a day after the rape of a Class 8 student, who was on her way attend an Independence Day function at her school in Chandigarh on Tuesday, the Chandigarh police are still looking for clues.
“We have rounded up a few suspects and are looking at the CCTV footage of the area,” Chandigarh SSP Eish Singhal said.
The 12-year-old child was raped by a man at a nullah at the Children’s Traffic Park, located in the heart of the city, on Tuesday morning. The victim informed her parents about the incident who then approached the police.
“The accused, aged around 40 years, forcibly took the 12-year-old girl to the park, raped her and fled,” Singhal said while talking to the media. The victim, a Class 8 student in a government school, was taken to the government hospital in Sector 16 for a medical examination. The girl is in a stable condition and told the police that the accused held her captive at knifepoint.
The police have registered a case under Section 376 (rape),341 (wrongful restraint), 363 ( kidnapping) and 506 (criminal intimidation) and various section of POCSO Act at the Sector 17 police station.
