The Border Security Force (BSF) recovered 4kg of heroin along the India-Pakistan border in the Amritsar sector late on Saturday night.
The contraband, valued around Rs 20 crore in the international market was seized in Uddhar Dhariwal area of the Amritsar sector, said BSF deputy commandant and public relations officer NP Negi.
He said a BSF sentry heard a sound near the fence at 12.10am. He immediately alerted the nearby sentries and during search of the area, BSF troops recovered two packets of contraband near the fence, Negi added.
He said in view of the vulnerability of border due spurt in activities of smugglers, BSF authorities have issued operational guidelines to all sectors under the Punjab frontier for strengthening the border domination to check infiltration and drug smuggling.
