A 55-year-old man of Dulheri village in Tosham of Biwani district was allegedly beaten to death by villagers on Wednesday night following an argument.

The police say that Diwan Chhimpi was beaten to death by 25 persons around 8:30pm on Wednesday to take revenge.

According to the reports, the trouble started when one of Diwan's son - Bhramdev - married a girl from the upper caste community and eloped with her four months ago. The couple came to Hisar to live in a protection home and the villagers boycotted the family.

On Wednesday, the deceased had some argument with members of the upper caste community following which Diwan, his second son and two other members of his family were thrashed. While Diwan died on the spot, his son and relatives were rushed to a private hospital here.

According to the protection house officials, the eloped couple was living at some village near Hisar. However, the couple returned to Hisar on Thursday morning.

The police have registered a murder case against 25 persons.
