The protesters raised slogans against the Centre and termed the hike as anti-people.

AAP MP from Patiala, Dr Dharamvira Gandhi, demanded immediate withdrawal of the hike in railway fare.

He said, “It is going to burden the lives of the common man and the hike of 14.2% is not acceptable at all.

The hike in freight charges may shoot up the prices of other essential commodities as well.”

He said during his poll campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised that price rise would be controlled, but this kind of decision within a month of forming the government has raised serious questions on his promise.

Meanwhile, he also condemned the recent bus fare enhancement by the Punjab government and demanded its immediate withdrawal.
