Three persons, including a local Akali leader, have been booked for allegedly stabbing an elderly person at Nagoke village, 25km from the district headquarters in Tarn Taran here on Monday.

The accused have been identified as Baldev Singh, husband of village sarpanch Amandeep Kaur; Hari Singh and Babba, residents of the village.
Pakhoke village resident Balwant Singh, 60, along with his son Gurdit Singh, 12, and younger daughter Kulwinder Kaur, 12, had gone to the Nagoke village on a motorcycle to meet his daughter who is married here, on Sunday.
As per information when the victim along with his children reached the village, their motorcycle ran over the pipe, slightly damaging it, through which the three accused persons were discharging the sewer water, as the drain as blocked, and putting it into other drain.
“They started thrashing my father. They wrapped a cloth around his neck and strangulated him, ” said Kanwaljit Kaur, daughter of the deceased in a complaint lodged to Verowal Police station.
She said her father fell unconscious. “ I started crying for help and the accused fled from the spot. I managed to take him to a nearby nursing home at the village, where he was declared dead by the doctors,” she said.
After being informed, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Satpal Singh and other cops rushed to the spot.
A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 302 (murder) of the IPC. The three accused persons are absconding.
