Amritsar: Heritage street to come up outside Durgiana Temple too
Navjot Singh Sidhu said ₹5 crore have already been released for the proposed world-class street.
Punjab tourism and cultural affairs minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Wednesday said a heritage street will be developed outside the Durgiana Temple on the pattern of the one near the Golden Temple.
Making the announcement here, Sidhu said Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh has sent him to oversee the beautification project outside the temple and the planning of the heritage street. He said ₹5 crore have already been released for the proposed world-class street.
The minister said this street will start from the Hathi Gate. “The road will be opened for pedestrians and any traffic won’t be allowed. This will decongest the area approaching the temple. The main entrance will have a new façade and also walkways for the devotees.”
He added, “We aim to complete the ongoing beautification project by June. “A total of around ₹25 crore have been earmarked for the project, a major portion of which has been released.”
Talking about the overall development of the city, Sidhu said underpasses will be constructed soon near the railway station, Gurdwara Shaheedan Sahib, bus stand and the Jora Fatak. He said the work on under-passes will start next month.
