Promising speedy action in the suicide case of a Khalsa College student, Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh met the agitated students on Sunday.

The students of the college had staged a protest against the college authorities after a student, Harpreet Singh, committed a suicide in his hostel room on April 26.

The CM assured the students of justice and directed Anurag Verma, principal secretary, higher education, to address their grievances and probe the matter to ascertain the college management’s role in the suicide of the student who was found hanging in his room.

He also assured Harpreet’s father, Yadwinder Singh, of all possible help to the family. In a letter to the CM, Yadwinder sought Rs 50 lakh compensation and a job for his younger son following Harpreet’s death. Pointing out that the state police had already formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case, Captain said, “No laxity would be tolerated and the case would be taken to its logical conclusion.”
