In a departure from the past, the authorities have prepared a giddha performance and written couplets (boliyan) based on various social schemes launched by the government.

Sources said that motive behind preparing dance performances is to disseminate information about the government’s initiatives.

The official said that the idea behind structuring theme-based performance was to target the rural audience. “Catch them young is the motive behind theme-based programme. The children will be reciting the government’s initiatives at home and perform it during the function. This will help us in expanding the reach of our schemes,” said the official requesting anonymity.

Besides Tandarust Punjab and fight against drug menace, the girls will perform giddha on social topics such as female foeticide, dowry, bribery, alcoholism.

While sharing the details about the theme-based programme, DPRO Prabhdeep Singh said, “In order to make cultural event informational and interesting we introduced ‘boliyan’, which highlights social issues. Songs and dance are the best medium of education and the exercise is to generate awareness among the children about social evils.”
