They alleged that the kiln owners have not been raising their wages for over a long time and the district administration was also not taking their demand seriously.

Brick-kiln workers’ union president Makhan Singh said that the district administration was not taking steps to hold talks with the kiln owners to take up their demands.

He demanded the implementation of the Brick-Kiln and Factory Act and wages should be increased by 25 per cent.

He also accused the kiln owners of not accepting the genuine demands of the workers.

After two hours of traffic jam, Sangrur assistant labour commissioner called the representatives of the union for talks in Barnala. Two meetings of workers with the brick kiln owners have already remained unsuccessful here.
