Chandigarh: 18-month-old boy dies after fall from balcony

The boy was playing alone as his mother was busy in the kitchen and his father, driver of a loading auto, was at work.

Deepak,an 18-month-old toddler and the only son of his parents, died after falling from the balcony of his second-floor home in Bapudham Colony, Sector 26, at 2pm on Monday.

The boy was playing alone as his mother was busy in the kitchen and his father, driver of a loading auto, was at work.

After hearing a loud thud, people living nearby rushed to the spot to find Deepak had fallen, injuring his head. He was rushed to Government Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, and later referred to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, where doctors declared him dead.

Deepak’s father Moti Lal, in a state of shock while submitting his statement to the police, said his child was playing in the balcony like he did every other day, but had fallen after slipping through the grill.

Police have initiated proceedings under section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
