The police on Saturday arrested four persons for allegedly abducting a seven-month-old boy in Moga.

Sohan Singh, 45, and his wife Paramjeet Kaur, 42, of Kot Ise Khan village allegedly abducted the toddler, son of a migrant labourer, Bhagwan Dass, on Friday as the couple had no child in 22 years of their marriage.

The police also arrested Sohan’s sister Amarjit Kaur and brother-in-law Satpal Singh for aiding the couple in abduction. Three other persons, Sarwan Singh, Kaka Singh and Raju Singh, are yet to be arrested.

Moga superintendent of police (detective) Wazir Singh Khaira said the child was rescued within hours of the abduction from Karial village, 120km from Kot Ise Khan. The police also recovered a motorcycle used in the crime.

Dass was set to return to his native village in Uttar Pradesh in a couple of days. As he comes to Kot Ise Khan every year, Sohan befriended him, said Khaira.

Crime investigation agency in-charge Kikkar Singh Bhullar said Sohan even wanted to marry Dass’ 15-year-old daughter, but he turned down the proposal.

The case under Sections 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly) and 120-b (criminal conspiracy) and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Act has been registered against the accused.
