Commercial activities near Rohtang Pass banned

The district administration has imposed a complete ban on all commercial activities at the Rohtang Pass and surrounding areas in compliance with the directive issued by the National Green Tribunal, deputy commissioner Rakesh Kanwar said Tuesday.

"Snow scooters and bikes, paragliding, tyre tube games and horse riding are now prohibited at Rohtang, Marhi, Solang valley and other nearby areas. No 'dhabas' (makeshift roadside eateries) will be allowed on the Leh-Manali highway and any infringement will invite penal action," he said in a press release.

He added that all vehicles heading for Leh from Manali would be required to secure a special permit.
