Conference on scientific sessions held at DMCH

The second international and fifth national conference of Indian Society for Rational Pharmacotherapeutics on the theme 'Quest for responsible use of medicines'

The second international and fifth national conference of Indian Society for Rational Pharmacotherapeutics on the theme 'Quest for responsible use of medicines', witnessed several scientific sessions on topics related to cardiology, neurology and industry interphase at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Friday.

Dr KK Sharma, president, Indian Society for Rational Pharmacotherapeutics, delivered a keynote address on
'Responsible use of medicines'. In his message, Dr Sharma talked about personal drug, its selection and rationale drug use. Professor PL Sharma delivered the key note address on 'placebo' and its status in the current scenario.

Organising secretary Dr Sandeep Kaushal (professor and head of pharmacology) expressed gratitude to the medical pharmacologists and delegates for participating in the on-going conference.

In the scientific session on 'Cardiology update', Dr GS Wander, chief cardiologist, HDHI, elaborated on 'Indian hypertension guidelines'. Dr Avtar Lal from Canada spoke on the 'Role of systematic review in evidence-based clinical practice guidelines'.

Other topics covered during different scientific sessions included debate on 'Current status of therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM)' by Dr Sangeeta Sharma from New Delhi. Dr Gagandeep Singh, professor and head of neurology, DMCH, spoke on 'Cancer, epilepsy and anti-epileptic drugs'.

Lecture on 'Current issues of clinical trial and challenges in compensation to clinical trial related injury' was given by Dr YK Gupta from AIIMS, New Delhi, and 'Challenges of under reporting of ADRs' was given by Dr Vishal Tandon from Jammu.
