Dairy farmers in the district have announced a Rs 2 per kg hike in milk effective from August 1. The highest quality of milk will now cost Rs 38 a kg.

"Over the last four weeks, prices of cattle feed have risen sharply. It is not possible to survive at the present rates," said Ashwani Kapoor, general secretary, Jalandhar Dairy Complex Association.

All dairy farmers under the banner of Punjab Livestock Farmers Association have unanimously decided to hike prices, he said.

The general secretary also demanded that the government must stop the export of cattle feed, so that milk prices stay at comfortable levels.
