Engineer’s body condemns manhandling of SDO by cop

PSEB Engineers’ Association, Ludhiana, has condemned the manhandling of a SDO of Powercom by a police constable and convened an urgent meeting on Wednesday at 5pm. Association regional secretary Gurpreet Sidhu said that such cases won’t be tolerated, as the subdivisional officer Parminder Singh was just performing his duty.

A police constable allegedly beat up the Parminder Singh in Haibowal on Tuesday. The cop also snatched the official mobile phone of the sub-divisional officer. The Haibowal police have initiated investigation in the case.

According to information, sub-divisional officer Parminder Singh, along with his team, was checking the houses in Haibowal area. The sub-divisional officer found some illegal kundi connections and started making video of the illegal connections using his mobile phone.

Meanwhile, a police constable Harjit Singh posted in Maalkhana, who also resided in the same area, objected to making of the video outside the house.

The Powercom team and the constable entered into a heated argument and the constable, along with some other persons, allegedly beat up the SDO and also snatched his mobile phone. Senior officials of Powercom brought the matter to the notice of police officials and Haibowal police initiated investigation in the case.

Haibowal station house officer Amarjit Singh said the proceedings to register the case against the accused constable and others had been initiated.
