Five of family accused of abetting suicide

The Nakodar Sadar police have charged five members of a family, including two women, with forcing a man to commit suicide. Manpreet Kaur of Tahli village has complained to police that her father, Baljit Singh, consumed poison on November 25 because of mental stress and died on December 27.

The reason of the extreme step, she said, was her being harassed for dowry since her marriage with Amandeep Singh of Awan village in Ludhiana. Station house officer concerned Rupinder Singh confirmed the registration of a case against Amandeep Singh; his father, Jasbir Singh; mother, Veena; brother, Harpreet Singh; and sister-in-law, Kamal.
