Former sarpanch booked for 'cheating'

The district police have booked a former sarpanch of a village in Faridkot district for allegedly duping a man of Rs 10 lakh on the pretext of getting him recruited in the Punjab Police.

The district police have booked a former sarpanch of a village in Faridkot district for allegedly duping a man of Rs 10 lakh on the pretext of getting him recruited in the Punjab Police.

On a complaint by Sandeep Singh, a resident of Deep Nagar locality here, the police have booked Gulshan Singh, a former sarpanch of Romana village Ajit Singh in Faridkot district under Section 420 of IPC.

The complainant alleged that the man, who claimed himself to be former sarpanch of the village, had assured that he would get him recruited in the Punjab Police and he had paid Rs 10 lakh to him for this, but he didn't keep his promise.
