Guilty of raping minor, teen to do community service at old age home in Mohali

A teenager found guilty of raping a minor has been directed to perform community service at an old age home.

According to the Mohali juvenile justice board’s order, the boy will perform community service from 9am to 2pm for five days a week the next six months.

Fifteen years old at the time of the crime, the boy was arrested along with an adult for raping a Class 9 student on May 30, 2015.

The victim had gone to a function at Manuli village in Mohali when the accused kidnapped her on a two-wheeler and raped her at a secluded area in Sector 82.

They later dumped her near a gurdwara in the village and fled.

Has stayed at reformation home

While the other accused had already been convicted of rape, the juvenile justice board has passed the order now. The boy has already stayed at a children’s reformation home for about a year.

Sources said the boy will have to report at the old age home at 9am and perform various duties, including gardening, helping the staff in taking care of the elderly and cleaning.

According to the order, a supervisor will be appointed to maintain the attendance record, which will be submitted to the board.

In case the teenager fails to perform community service as directed, he will have to spend another year at the reformation home.
