The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), for the first time, will illuminate Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport, Amritsar railway station, inter-state bus terminal and all its institutions to celebrate the fourth Sikh guru Ram Das’s birth anniversary on October 7.

So far, the SGPC has illuminated the Golden Temple and conducted fireworks, besides organising religious congregations and ‘nagar kirtan’ in the city. This year, the SGPC is going for a unique plan to celebrate Gurpurab on a large-scale.

The SGPC secretary Roop Singh said that under president Kirpal Singh Badungar’s guidance, they are making all arrangements for the event that will be organised with the sangat’s cooperation.

“Devotees and tourists from across world visit the Golden Temple. When they will see the lighting, they will get curious and would want to know its cause. In turn, they will learn about the guru,” he said.

The SGPC authorities have approached deputy commissioner (DC) Kamaldeep Singh Sangha, urging him to ensure cleanliness and removal of encroachments along the roads for this event. They also want the DC to declare government holiday on October 7.
