Head constable shoots self dead in Ludhiana

The victim was reportedly upset for the past many days due to some property dispute with his relatives which might be the trigger behind the incident.

A head constable posted at the Raikot police station committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon late Thursday night.

The incident took place on the station premises.

The cop, identified as Baljinder Singh (44) of Bhundri village in Jagraon, shot himself in the chest and was taken to the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), Ludhiana, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The police have also recovered a suicide note from the spot. The victim was reportedly upset for the past many days due to some property dispute with his relatives which might be the trigger behind the incident.

Jagraon deputy superintendent of police (DSP investigation) Amandeep Singh said the victim had named some family members in the suicide note. A probe has been initiated in the case.

In April, Manpreet Singh (32), a constable deputed as a gunman with a Punjab Police Service (PPS) officer Paramjit Singh Pannu, had shot himself with his service rifle at at Club Road in Ludhiana.
