Hockey India League (HIL) has not only brought big bucks to the magicians with the stick, but also brought cheer to local sports manufacturing firms. The event is expected to spur demand for hockey equipment.
"Our company has been selected to supply sports kits to three participating teams, UP Wizards, Mumbai Magicians and Punjab Warriors. We are likely to bag a contract from another team too," said Rajan Kohli, TK Sports managing director.
The kit includes tracksuits, travelling kit, playing kit, bags, shoes etc and the event starts from January 14.
"The event provides us with a platform for promoting the 'TK' brand, both in the domestic as well as the international market," Kohli said.
"We have employed a large number of people to meet the deadline for supply of kits. We anticipate huge demand for replicas of team uniforms and are preparing accordingly."
Drag flicker Sandeep Singh, playing for Mumbai magicians, visited the company's manufacturing unit on Friday to inspect the quality of the kits.
"I am here to convey the requirements of my team mates regarding the kits, so that players feel comfortable," Singh told HT and expressed his pleasure at the quality of the kits being prepared.
President of Sports Forum and owner of the 'Rakshak' brand of hockey sticks, said that this firm was supplying kits to Ranchi Rhinos. "Yes, the game of hockey and the industry will definitely get a boost with the event," he added.
There are 11 big hockey manufacturers and around 50 traders in the hockey business in the region and all are expected to gain from the event, he claimed.
There is a domestic market of about Rs 50 crore and export market of Rs 10 crore, he claimed and could rise 3-4 times, if Hockey India League is a success.
"This is a great opportunity for brand promotion and to establish out footprint at the national level," Kohli added.
